Apple's Newest Watch: The Apple Watch 6
During the Apple event of September 15, 2020, Apple revealed the latest version of their smartwatches: The Apple Watch 6 . We could also expect this a bit since the theme of the evening was 'Time Flies'. It was also the first reveal of this always talked about evening. Let's see what this new Watch has in store for the customer.
The looks
Little change at first glance, to get straight to the point. The exterior looks like the ones we know from series 4 and 5. Nowadays you have more choices in the color palette, such as blue, red and graphite black. In addition, you have the choice of a 44mm watch or a size smaller with 40mm. The wristband has also been renewed with a Solo Loop, which consists of one piece and therefore does not have to be fastened with a buckle.
Display
One improvement is the brightness of the display, which has been increased so that it should now be more visible, regardless of the environment you are in. Apple claims that the visibility is up to 2.5x better compared to the Apple Watch 5 . The display also now allows you to choose multiple backgrounds, such as your own Memoji.
Fitness app
The biggest change in this area is the oximeter. This meter ensures that your blood oxygen is measured every 15 seconds and that this happens continuously. This information is collected during the day, but also during your sleep so that you get the most complete overview possible. Apart from this new functionality, there is nothing more worth mentioning that has been improved.
The inside, the software
The software that the Apple Watch 6 uses is not new, it was already released in June; the WatchOS 7. A new chipset has been added (S6 chipset) that provides somewhat more powerful capabilities. What is new here is that so-called V02 Max numbers give notifications if there is too little oxygen in your blood. In addition, the sleep tracker is a major change in this area, which in itself does not mean much but does indicate that Apple is also working hard here and will come up with new functionalities in the long term.
The price
You can get this new smartwatch from 429,- for the 40mm and 459,- for the 44mm version. If you want LTE technology with that, the starting price is from 529,-.
To do or not to do?
All in all not many big changes. A new color, a stronger interior for better performance and some new functionalities such as an altimeter and blood oxygen measurement. A big disadvantage is that the battery does not last longer, something that the public had hoped for. This upgrade in the Apple Watch line is not large compared to its predecessor the Apple Watch 5, which also did not have many changes compared to the Apple Watch 4 .
