iPad differences: 2017 vs 2018 - Discover & Choose at leapp!

ipad differences

With the introduction of the iPad in 2010, Apple introduced the world to the tablet phenomenon. Since then, many different iPads have been released. The iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad 2017 and iPad 2018 are among the most popular models. But what exactly are the differences between these iPads? We take a closer look at them for you.

Great design, simple software, lots of horsepower

Tablet PCs have been around since the 80s, and in 2000 Microsoft tried in vain to sell a tablet to the general public. Ultimately, it wasn't until Steve Jobs' keynote on January 27, 2010 (see video below) that the tablet broke through. Why then? Well, Apple's iPad has a great design, super simple software, and a fair amount of horsepower under the hood.

In addition to the main series, several other iPad lines have been released, such as the iPad Pro , iPad Mini , and iPad Air .

iPad 2018 vs iPad 2017 : Spot the Differences

First, let’s take a look at the iPad 2018 and iPad 2017 , the predecessors to the seventh-generation iPad that launched on September 30th. Get your magnifying glass out, because these devices are only minimally different. For example, they share the same size, design, weight, and screen, and they all have the same cameras.

One of the biggest differences: the iPad 2018 is compatible with the Apple Pencil. Previously, this stylus to operate your screen only worked on iPad Pros. With the Apple Pencil, you can easily highlight words, make handwritten notes and draw.

In terms of hardware, the 2018 outshines the 2017 mainly in terms of processor. The Apple A10 Fusion processor is a bit more powerful than the A9 processor of the 2017. The 2018 is therefore somewhat more suitable for heavier games and editing 4K footage.

The last - not unimportant - difference is of course the price. Open door: the 2017 is a lot cheaper than the 2018.

iPad Air vs iPad Air 2: Anti-glare and Touch ID

The iPad Air was marketed by Apple as a lighter, more durable and more ergonomic variant of the iPad. An iPad Air is generally somewhat more expensive than a regular iPad released at about the same time, has more storage space, a more powerful chip and a slightly larger screen.

The iPad Air (from 2013) and iPad Air 2 (from 2014) have slightly larger differences than the iPad 2017 and iPad 2018 that we compared before. For example, the iPad Air 2 has an anti-reflective coating, which makes it easier to use in bright conditions. The Air 2 also has Touch ID for unlocking with your fingerprint.

The Air 2 is 1.5 millimeters thinner and 32 grams lighter than the Air, but still has a better processor. The A8X processor of the Air 2 is slightly more suitable for heavy (graphics) applications than the A7 of the iPad Air. Finally, the Air 2 has better photo specifications, such as an 8 megapixel camera (instead of 5MP on the iPad Air), burst mode (for quickly shooting photos), panorama photos and time-lapse videos.

Here too, the iPad Air is naturally a little cheaper than the iPad Air 2.

Cheap and sustainable: refurbished iPad

Want to save a lot on your iPad? Then go for a refurbished iPad . Such a device has had a previous owner and has been extensively checked, tested and cleaned and repaired where necessary, fitted with replacement parts and upgraded. This makes them up to 60 percent cheaper and you are extremely environmentally conscious. Plus: thanks to a two-year warranty, you are guaranteed to be able to use your iPad without worries!
